DEPUTY DOG'S TRIP TO           LACONIA   2002
as written by DEPUTY DOG

June 8, 2002
On a beautiful Saturday I left for Laconia, New Hampshire and a rendezvous with "Tall Dick" and his soul mate, Linda.
I headed north on US 23 to Johnson City, Tenn. - picked up I-81 and put the hammer down. Next stop for the night was Harrisburg,Pa.  Camped here and was up and off north the next morning to Binghampton, NY. where I exited the superslab.
I was now traveling through the Pocono Mountains on a lovely day.  Good weather.
Hit the Adirondack Mountains where I stopped for the night at a state park at the top of New York.
On day three, I passed into Vermont at the northwest corner near the Canadian border and headed down through the green mountains of Vermont.  Another cool, but good riding day.
I hit the New Hampshire line about halfway down the state.  Wanted to travel the Kangamangas Trail through the White Mountains of NH.  They were very beautiful.
I got into Gunstock a day earlier than I had planned.
Set up camp thinking Dick and Linda would be in the next day.  Walked around the campground finding my cousin and several friends of mine who lived in Maine.  It looked like we were in for a good time.
My cousin "Little Dave" and I decided to hit Wiers Beach before the crowd arrived.
The next morning Dick & Linda arrived early.  It was nice to meet Linda. She turned out to be a real keeper.  It was a lot of fun watching her and Dick interact with each other. They were acting so young and full of love.
We spent the next day in the driving rain watching the hill climb.
Thursday came and we started off with breakfast at the American Legion where we ate every morning.  They serve up breakfast every day during bike week.
We headed out north, into the White Mountains to visit Mount Washington where the highest wind speed on earth has been recorded at 240 mph.  What an exciting ride. That made a full day of it and we returned late that evening.
Friday came and it looked like a big rain coming in after breakfast so Linda and Dick headed for main street -- Linda wanted to get a nose ring put in.  I did my best to talk her out of it, after all, she's 55 years old.
We were to leave later that morning for home, Dick having to travel about 300 miles and I had 1000 miles to go.
I got ants in my pants and rode all day in the rain, stopping back at the same campground I'd stopped at on  the way up.
The next day I arrived back at 203 Dunlap St. not knowing it would be the last time I saw my old friend Dick alive.
Today is June 23, 2002 and Bonnie called my house giving me the bad news that Dick had been shot to death by Linda's estranged husband.
I rushed to Wal-Mart with the pictures I took of Dick & Linda.  I would like to share them with all two dogs.
